What is HCG?
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, HCG, is a hormone naturally produced by the placenta in pregnant women. It almost completely controls the metabolic function through the hypothalamus. The HCG used in the HCG Diet protocols is a variation of the HCG form used for fertility treatments except in much smaller doses. All HCG used for medical purposes is natural, but created in laboratories from sterile cells. It is not extracted from urine in women!
How much weight will you lose?
Most HCG dieters report a loss of 1+ lbs. per day! Most individuals lose the most in the very first week, up to 10 pounds!
Why only 500 calories per day?
The HCG diet injections cause your hypothalamus to mobilize the fat already stored in your body. The 500 calories you ingest will be supplemented with about 2000 calories within your reserved fat released by your hypothalamus. It is common for mild hunger during the first few days, however this should pass and by the second week you will find tiny servings satisfying. A list of foods will be presented to you.
What are the side effects?
You may experience: headaches, hunger, irregularity, water retention, irritability, injection site bruise and/or inflammation. Other effects might occur based on your medical history. All of these possibilities will be
discussed in your consultation. Using the drug may also increase a woman's chances of having multiple births in pregnancy.
Is there any positive effects?
Yes! Besides rapid weight loss, there have been numerous reports of: lessening or elimination of medications associated with obesity which include: diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, depression, etc. Overall you may see more energy, higher libido, clearer skin, thicker hair, better sleeping patterns, and a higher self-esteem of your body image!
How do I prepare for this diet?
Dr. Shapiro will do an initial consultation to see if you are a candidate for the HCG diet. Blood work may be ordered. On your initial consultation, measurements and your initial weight will be taken. You will be given instructions on how to start as well as a diet to follow. It is recommended that you have a food scale at home. In office weekly weigh-ins will be taken along with supplemental B12 shots.
